The Westchester County Democratic Committee held its Judicial Nominating Convention las Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains. The members of the committee, made up of city, town and village chairs and officers, endorsed Westchester County Court Judge Barbara Zambelli for reelection, Greenburgh Town Judge James Wm. Hubert for a second County Court Vacancy and New Rochelle resident Janet C. Jordan, Esq. for Family Court. Judge Barbara Zambelli, a judge in the Westchester County Court for the past nine years, is seeking reelection for another 10-year term. Judge Zambelli previously served as a Mount Vernon City Court judge for ten years, and is currently serving as an Acting Supreme Court Justice in the Ninth Judicial District. Before accepting other nominations for the seat on the County Court vacated by Judge Sam Walker, who was elected to the New York State Supreme Court, County Chairman Reginald Lafayette called on Susan Capeci, Esq. of Mount Vernon; Ron Stokes, Esq. of Yorktown; Barry Warhit, Esq. of Scarsdale and Judge John Colangelo, City Judge of New Rochelle, to make remarks. All four candidates withdrew their names from consideration for County Court and agreed to support the candidates of the party. Greenburgh Democratic chair Suzanne Berger nominated Town Judge James Wm. Hubert to run for the other seat on the County Court. Thomasina Laidley-Brown, chair of the Ossining Democratic Committee, seconded the nomination. Mr. Lafayette called for the other nominations. Hearing none, Judge Hubert was accepted unanimously by the Executive Committee members to join Judge Zambelli as a candidate for the County Court on the Democratic ballot. Judge Hubert thanked his fellow competitors for their support and for their show of unity in stepping aside to prevent a primary among individuals who have gotten to know each other over the course of the past few months as they campaigned all over Westchester. |
